The Great Dyke of Zimbabwe
The "Dyke" is a phenomenon full of resources in the real world. That is also true for Earth 2. This article will guide you on where to find them.
In Zimbabwe, there is a geological structure called "The Great Dyke" ¹. It stretches from the Mashonaland Central province, through Mashonaland West, and far down into the Midlands province ². Wherever I check existing properties in The Dyke, I find the following detected resources:
• Resource List:
- Copious
- Copper
- Gold
- Nickel
- Chromium
- Cobalt
- Platinum
- Iridium
- Sparse
- Iron
- Zirconium
- Titanium
All these resources can be mined from a T2 property – except for Iridium, which can be accessed if you upgrade it to T1. As I write, a T2 property will cost E$0.663 / tile and the equivalence of E$0.33 / tile to upgrade.
I will provide coordinates to a selection of existing properties in Earth 2. There is also a Reference Map showing an overview of their locations: Existing properties are colored cyan (turquoise). The numbers in white on the map correspond to the list of coordinates positioned at the end of the next section. I recommend opening the Reference Map in a separate window.
Examining the Reference Map locations
In the center of The Dyke in the Midlands province there is a big "lake" where many users have bought a lot of tiles. If you check some of them out, you will find they have the same resources described in my Resource List. The lake is location 1 on the Reference Map, with the following coordinates:
-19.62359, 30.0737
The lake belongs to the Unki Platinum Mine ³. The mining plant is a little to the lake's right. I don't think the lake is a mining area because the Unki Mine is an underground mine ⁴. Anyway, the resources detected by the properties in the lake come from the ground – which is The Dyke.
Recently I bought some tiles around the location mark of the Umtebekwe River ⁵, found in an article on mindat.org. This will be location 2 on the Reference Map, with the coordinates:
-19.51111,30.09583
As the Reference Map shows, the Umtebekwe River mark is within The Dyke, some distance north of the Unki Platinum Mine. If you check the properties here, you will find they also have the same resources as in the Resource List – as will all properties I refer to from now.
Other properties are spread around on all sides of the two locations I have pointed to. The coordinates to the locations on the Reference Map are here:
• Coordinates:
2) -19.511110, 30.095830
3) -19.504056, 30.108633
4) -19.482857, 30.142193
5) -19.517566, 30.085372
6) -19.521773, 30.076618
7) -19.526789, 30.058851
8) -19.546768, 30.000229
9) -19.540055, 30.072069
10) -19.541915, 30.111466
11) -19.612595, 29.984951
12) -19.566745, 30.149059
13) -19.660694, 29.991903
Outside The Reference Map
The Dyke is a lot longer than the small part displayed in the Reference Map. It stretches a far way north and south of the map. There are, for example, tiles a long way south of the map at:
-20.087373, 29.888563
And even further south, near the south end of The Dyke:
-20.329014, 29.823504
If you follow The Dyke north of the map there are more properties. After you have scrolled a few screens upwards, you will come to a big lake – the Sebakwe Dam – with some tiles on the shore, at the location:
-19.046947, 30.263729
If you cross the lake and go further north there are some tiles right across the Sebakwe Dam, a little to the left side of The Dyke at the location:
-18.992742, 30.257635
Further north on the right side of The Dyke, there are tiles at:
-18.91538, 30.29892
The next position of notice is the Ngezi Platinum Mine ⁶. At this point where we have crossed into the Mashonaland West province:
-18.66613,30.35475
North of the Ngezi Platinum Mine, you will encounter the Hartley Mine ⁷ at the location:
-18.03268,30.42869
If you would like to check even further north, there are four locations here:
-17.790535, 30.526714
-17.396429, 30.63117
-17.07902, 30.717688
-16.891781, 30.830298
The last location I referred to is located near the north end of The Dyke, where it "twirls" into an s-shape, and ends at:
-16.4641667,31.1374251
Conclusion
The Ngezi and Hartley mines are full of tiles like the Unki Platinum Mine I pointed to initially. But our examination suggests that we can buy tiles anywhere in The Dyke and get the same resources.
